Sanxenxo

Sanxenxo is, with Santiago de Compostela, the tourist destination par excellence in Galicia.

At the very heart of Rias Baixas, in the north side of ría de Pontevedra, a long and quite narrow tidal inlet, Sanxenxo offers to the tourists not only sun but amazing beaches, art, arquitecture, gastronomy and many picturesque small villages along the coast.

Founded as a fishing village, Sanxenxo evolved and grow during the last three decades thanks to tourism. Due to its geographical situation, protected from north winds, Sanxenxo has a warm weather, sometimes really hot, during summer months. The average temperature from May to September is about 24ºC. This reason, added to the many and near small villages as Portonovo, Raxó, Combarro, O Grove or A Toxa, have made Sanxenxo the tourism's epicenter in Rias Baixas, Galicia.

All along its 36 kilometers of coast it is possible to find beaches like Silgar, Caneliñas, Baltar, Areas, Major, A Lanzada. From 2004 this municipality has been awarded with so many european blue flags for the quality of the beachs as no other in Spain.

There is a modern maring and a brand new nautic club, the Real Club naútico de Sanxenxo.

If you love doing some water sports Sanxenxo is the perfect place: sailing, diving, jet-skiing, rent a charter, etc. The neighboring village of Portonovo has as well a marine, smaller and simpler, where it is possible to take a boat in summer to the Ons Islands, an unique natural paradise, with Islas Cies, Cortegada y Sálvora, in Galicia
